PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR BLACK FASHION WEEK (2013)

MEDIA RELATIONS, MEDIA TRAINING, PRESS MATERIAL CREATION

OBJECTIVE: Generate media coverage for the first edition of Montreal’s Black Fashion Week

In 2013, Senegalese designer Adama Paris decided to bring her Black Fashion Week to Montreal for the first time. I approached her and offered my services to manage the event’s public relations.

My knowledge of Montreal’s media landscape allowed me to build a media list that included print media, radio, TV, and web publications. I created media kits including the featured designers, offering a complete profile with their biography, a history of their brands, and links to their website to increase their profiles along with the event’s. I also wrote press releases (once to announce the event, then to share more details on the designers) and organized a press conference the first day of the event. Each publication received a tailored pitch which highlighted its relevance for their audience.

The coverage generated interest in the event, which translated into a strong attendance for its first edition in Montréal.
